This memorial pet portrait of Lola is painted on a 8x8 canvas panel. I am not looking for a detailed drawing in this stage, I am mostly interested in proportion accuracy and general placement of Lola's facial features before I commit to oil painting on the canvas. Stage Two of Lola's pet portrait In this stage I start to use a light wash of oil paint to define the areas of the painting. The darkest colors I use are a mix of phthalo blue and raw umber thinned out with oil paint thinner. The lighter areas are a mix of titanium white and a touch of cadmium yellow pale huge. The gums and tongue are a blend of titanium white with alizarin crimson. Stage three of Lola's pet portrait In this stage I start to add highlights to define and adjust areas on her face to achieve a realistic yet painterly final pet portrait. The background color is one solid color that I choose to complement the tones in the fur and other features of the portrait. Final Stage of Lola's pet portrait In the final stage I add small yet important details of highlights in the eyes and nose and textures around her muzzle and fur. **If you like this size pet portrait, see more samples at the link for my 8x8 canvas panels here Samples of 8x8 Pet Paintings Please visit my Pricing and Ordering page for answers to your questions on how to commission my service Below is the photograph I used to reference Lola's pet portrait.
